12 January began with the exploration of the barcelona model of urban regeneration and a discussion on public spaces. The city is abundant with public spaces, from complete city blocks in L’Eixample to the beach and up to Montjuic and Park Güell. The focus of class was more on small plazas and squares, and the center courtyards of the inner city L’Eixample blocks.
Our topic brought us to see some of these spaces along with the continuation of the tour of the old city ruins and hidden elements from roman times. We checked out some old churches and a museum. The class found it’s end with a small lunch and a tour of ESARQ, UIC’s school of architecture.
The school was small but very cool, and on the upper Tibidabo site of town. One of the directors gave us a tour of the quiet institution and this capped off a long day of school and work.
